Resource Teacher
Mary Ellen Carter grew up in Los Angeles, but has happily made Montana her home for the past sixteen years. Mary Ellen earned her B.A. in Liberal Studies from the University of Montana, and was awarded a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Montana in 2007. She holds a teaching certificate for grades K-8, and a Special Education endorsement. Mary Ellen had her first teaching experience at age 20 as the co-director of a shelter for Central American refugees, teaching English to newly arrived immigrants from Guatemala and El Salvador. Later, she taught English to Afghan refugees in Kazakhstan. Mary Ellen taught in multi-age classrooms at Clark Fork School, and has assisted in classrooms at Cold Springs School, Primrose Montessori, and Headstart. She is a proud mother of two daughters, Anna, 23, and Molly, 20, both of whom were homeschooled during most of their primary school years. Until recently, she managed the Clark Fork River Farmers Market, and is still active in supporting the market's food stamp program. She enjoys gardening and spending time with her husband, Monte, and their many pets.
