Decision-making at Sussex is informed by the participation and feedback of all community members. Some decisions call for a consensus, while others rest on the shoulders of one or a few individuals who are expected to act in the best interests of the school. There are multiple venues for community members to participate in decisions affecting the community, including: informal or formal discussions with the Director, Assistant Director, Lead Teacher, teachers and other staff; Board sponsored Community meetings three times a year; and membership on the Board and committees.
Parents who are concerned and/or passionate about a particular issue are encouraged to come directly to the appropriate staff person to discuss the issue at hand. Here at Sussex, we like to discuss a problem, concern, or idea immediately before a more serious problem arises or an issue becomes larger than necessary. Sussex parents should always feel free to email or schedule a meeting.
