Our vision is of an outstanding independent school, known for its excellent teachers, student-centered curriculum, engaged community and intentional outdoor programming. We realize this vision through our mission, which is to provide a challenging, progressive curriculum in a nurturing environment, so that students can become confident, enthusiastic learners and caring participants in their local and global communities.

In our middle school program, ZAP, our vision is for our students to think uncommonly and to act exceptionally. Teachers and students achieve this by developing C7: critical thinking, collaboration, curiosity, communication, courage, creativity, and compassion. C7 is grounded in research from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education’s Change Leadership Group and has been applied to the ZAP vision. Curriculum and assessment are run through C7 so that students develop these traits in their time at Sussex.

"The first few words that come to mind for me when I think of Sussex: originality, freedom, empowerment, expression."
