Student & Parent Resources

Financial Aid
School Counseling
The school counselor provides support for students, parents and teachers. The focus of the counseling program is the development of the whole child; social, emotional, physical and intellectual. The counselor works closely with parents and staff to support and enhance the positive culture of this unique school setting, in a proactive and preventative manner. Services include observation, consultation, program planning, assessment and referral.

Students will receive support one-on-one, in small groups, or whole grade level settings. Social and emotional issues addressed include but are not limited to, behavior management, peer relations, conflict resolution, self confidence, stress management, substance use, depression, and the grieving process. The school counselor also monitors student progress and offers support to teachers in identifying learning needs (both academic and social and emotional), making referrals and program planning.

Reading and Resource Support
Learning happens at different developmental stages, phases and times for students. Our resource teachers support children who need different methods and adaptations for learning, helping them to reach their potential. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, small group sessions, and in-class assistance for students who need extra support, the resource teacher also provides support to teachers at Sussex by serving as a consultant on topics related to special education, specialized curricula, and teaching techniques.

The resource teacher also assists in identifying students who might be eligible for special education services and acts as a liaison between the Missoula County Public Schools Special Education Services Office and Sussex School.

Before and After Care
Sussex School offers both before and after care for our younger students (K-5th grade). Before and after care are mostly unstructured play time that reflects students collective and individual interests. Activities include sports, board games, ice skating in winter, and arts and crafts. Students receive a healthy snack during aftercare.

Before care begins at 8am and is free. After care begins at the end of the school day and goes till 5:30. After care is $5/hour/child. On early out Thursdays the first hour of aftercare is free until 2:50. There is no need to sign up for before care; there is always a staff person present.

"Sussex may be the best school I have ever had to the pleasure to attend in my 20+ years of studying. I even convinced my mom to move back to Montana from the Midwest so I could finish my time at Sussex."
